Sweeten Your Summer With Freez

Freez is one of the most talked about cafes in Dubai. Why so you ask? Well they have sweet treats for the fussiest of eaters and their innovative crepes and cakes are popular amongst the younger crowd.
To find out what’s the hype all about I visited their outlet located at Al Qouz. It’s a small outlet but since most of their orders are takeaway/delivery this area seems sufficient for them. Colorful interiors that have graffiti of products from the 90’s such as Areej juices, oman chips and more.
Coming to the menu, we tried the Happiness cake, which is essentially a super moist red velvet cake topped with white and milk chocolate. This dish is not for those who are not sweet fanatics. It’s indeed delicious but a large portion for one. Apart from this I also tried the refreshing pistachio shake. Served in a jar of nutella, this shake is all you need to be summer ready! We loved it a lot. The other dish that I tried was the chocolate mousse cake, oozing liquid chocolate topped with more chocolate! I was in chocolate heaven! We also tried the lotus pancakes, kraft pancakes and more.
Overall, if you are in Al Qouz or if you spot their pop up stores, do give their dishes a try. They are sweet but delicious treats all priced reasonably.

Salads & More At Richy’s

As I always say, dining in JLT is fun now that’s because there are so many options! One of delicious options is Richys that serves wraps salads and smoothies all day long!
I tried the following salads, some custom made and some of their in house specials.
Zippy Tofu salad with goma dressing is,a must try as its zingy and I love the addition of edamame beans to it.
IMG_7974
The Krunchy kale salad, again what a delicious combination with sweet potato and feta giving that creaminess.
IMG_7938
My diy salad ( tricolored fusilli/grilled portebello mushrooms/ sundried tomato/corn/zucchini/ olives/Mozzarella/basil pesto) not low carbohydrate dish but really filling and it’s perfect for a light lunch.
IMG_7945
They do offer delicious soups too. My favorite was the tomato and basil soup. Not a fan of fried crunchies but it adds a good crunchy element to the dish.
IMG_7920
They have interesting wraps as well. What I tried was their veggie wrap which I replaced the feta with halloumi. My only concern was that the dressing of the wrap was a bit salty.
Coming to the desserts, I absolutely loved the fresh strawberry cheesecake. It not overtly sweet but the right amount of sweet.
Overall, Richys is a really good option for those looking to try new and healthy salad combinations. Also those who love DIY-ing own wraps and salads is a great idea!

Vegan Pizza & More At Freedom Pizza

Lately vegan cuisine has gained a lot of popularity in Dubai. Finding a unique way to promote this is Freedom pizza’s vegan sausage pizza. Yes you read it right.. It’s a sausage and made our of all vegan ingredients such as soy and more.
IMG_7134
This was my first time trying a vegan sausage and even the vegan cheese. With strong base sauce and generous toppings, this pizza is a hit! Along with my pizza I also tried superfood salad which was delicious too! My only concern was the packaging as it was too flimsy to handle.
To end my meal I tried vegan Banoffee which I wasn’t a big fan of. However it is commendable that Freedom pizza offers this particular dessert because it’s difficult to replicate in vegan form. The Strawberry vegan Cheesecake was delicious too!
Overall, freedom pizza’s vegan range is a must try for those who are on vegan diet and even those who aren’t. The ingredients are all of top quality and organic. Freedom pizza is commited to offering delicious food at reasonable prices. Visit thier website to know more about thier interesting journey.

Levantine Cusine Love At Awani

One of the most popular attractions in Dubai is the Dubai mall. The largest mall in fact has a lot of variety of restaurants as well. One of latest restaurants happens to be Awani Levant.
Levantine cuisine is very vegetarian friendly. What I love about them is that they have equal proportions of vegetarian and meat options which helps in maintaining balanced diet. Awani levant is one such restaurant that offers a fusion to the otherwise known levantine cuisine
Upon arrival they serve not any drink but a complimentary pea and asparagus soup. So delicious and it whets the appetite making you all ready for the courses to come.
My selection of cold mezze was the beetroot mouttabel and the classic hummus. For hot mezze, I opted for spring roll falafel. It was really delicious and the tahina sauce complimented the dish well.
For Our mains I opted for freekeh bil Fukrah. It actually tastes like risotto and so so delicious that I will definitely be trying this dish again! My partner opted for cheese kaak and that was delicious too but I would prefer the freekeh bil fukrah over it any day!
For drinks, I opted for a refreshing basil lemonade, served in a gorgeous tall glass. My guest opted for chocolate milkshake which was very average.
For desserts, I stuck to just one. Chocolate surprise and thank God I did order only one as the dessert was a really large portion. Good for three actually! The addition of pouring hot chocolate over a chocolate ball is dramatic but taste widths dish was too sweet for my palate. Love the addition of maltesers but the gummy bears is something I am not fond of.
There were few glitches in the service, especially when we were looking for someone to serve us fresh bread and take additional orders. However I can understand the glitch because they had just opened up and the amount of diners rushing in to try this cuisine were far too many.
Decor wise the restaurant is beautiful use of colorful tiles, quirky decoratives such as bird cages and interesting warm lighting create a good atmosphere. The weather was humid on the day of my visit else I would have preferred to dine outdoors as the view of the mighty burj khalifa, Dubai fountains and downtown is a spectacular!

Street Gastrologue At Tableya

Use of Molecular gastronomy and dry ice in food presentation is the hottest trend of the town as it makes the food more ‘instagram-able’. Bringing in the twist to this concept are the new entrants Tableya
Tableya, a concept born and raised in Dubai promises fusion of Indian and middle Eastern cuisine along with gastronomy experience. Does it live up to the hype? Read along to know.
Located at properties of Bay Square, this restaurant accommodates both shisha smokers and non smokers. At first impression Tableya has interesting decor, bright turquoise sofas, metal light pieces and wooden tables that look gorgeous!
For food we were offered a whole lot of variety. Generally, I am not someone who eats a lot at one time as I simply cannot but the food was so good that I had to try all. The amuse Bouche, Kaitafi Chaat had a rather dramatic presentation and was bursting with flavors.  This, was just the teaser and what followed were just some more delicious dishes that I highly would recommend to try.
Our appetizers, katafi paneer, baba ganoush cornetto, granola chaat, pani puri shots, wadapops, channajor felafel and thepla quesadilla. They all needed to be mentioned as all were presented stunningly! The weak links from the appetizers I felt was the pani puri shots that were definitely good to share but tastewise were just about ok. Also the granola chat topped with dahi spheres was a tad too sweet for my liking.
Our main courses were winter vegetables, smoked daal and tiffin pav bhaji. These dishes maybe sounding simple but the taste was certainly not. Complex flavors blended so well with each other and tasted simply delicious! My favorite was the smoked daal that I had with assorted naans, it tasted absolutely fabulous! I am definitely going back for more of that daal and also the tiffin pav bhaji which evoked nostalgia and made me feel like I am back at Juhu beach trying out the Pav bhaji at stalls. Also the mini buns served along were super cute!
The chefs insisted that we try the desserts and were been sent coconut creme brulee and kunafa cheesecake. The former was light and perfect end to the meal, served with refreshing berry sorbet the contrast in flavours left one wanting for more. The latter was rich, essentially a tres leches kinds of cake topped with kunafa and served on a bed of saffron infused milk. Needless to say, both presented gorgeously!
Overall, Tableya is a casual dine in with some seriously good food and equally good shisha. Often shisha places are not known to have a wide variety of food but at Tableya things are done differently. The prices are reasonable and the staff is very hospitable. My visit was in the first week of restaurant’s opening and their team of professionals handled it well.
About chefs: Experienced chefs, Mr Manoj Radi and Mr Jeet Negi both are new to UAE and have promised to change the UAE food scene. Both of them have earlier worked with Indian Accent, a well known chain of restaurants owned by a popular chef in India. Tea & Talk at The Tea Cup

I just love driving around Jumeirah and discovering new cafes. Mostly my drives are late night and luckily there isn’t much traffic at those times which makes it easier to move around.
If you are a frequent Jumeirah person then you wouldn’t have missed out the sign that says Tea Cup cafe. Located right next to Caliburger this quaint cafe serves hot tea and variety of fusion dishes inspired by Arabian cuisine up until 4am! They have another branch as well but I like this one the most. It’s comfortable and quiet ambiance which I prefer always.
IMG_7601
This was a review based visit and my guest and I were asked to try out many dishes they offer. We tried their famous pizza rigag, egg rigag (guest tried), Oman chips paratha roll, cheetos paratha roll, cheese honey chebab, ginger tea, chocolate shake and fruit cocktail.
The ginger tea was soothing! Back then it was crazy weather in Dubai with mix of hot and cold so this tea with generous pieces of ginger was perfect. Our chocolate milkshakes were decent enough to be enjoyed on a hot summer evening. The fruit cocktail was delicious and refreshing too!
Coming to the food, there were some hits and misses. The rigag pizza even though is innovative, I found it a tad difficult to eat as it kept falling. Their takeaway pack for Rigag looks convenient to handle though so I dont think this issue should occur. The paratha rolls were delicious, both generously slathered with Kraft cheese and topped with iconic Oman chips in one and cheetos chips in another. I did not try the chebab as it contains egg but my guest mentioned that he liked the taste of honey and cheese together with soft Arabic pancakes. All of dishes are priced reasonably and quantity wise good too.
We wanted to try desserts but none that were mentioned in menu were available for tasting. Also I found the staff bit too intervening when we placed our order because we were asked to order something else as staff mentions ” this combination will not go well”. I think it should be for the customer to decide on whether they want to try out something or not. Creating your own menu and then suggesting on not letting customers try is not exactly a great practice! I have forwarded my feedback to management the same evening of my visit so lets hope this has been taken care of. It did put me off from trying anything from the menu further.
Overall, Tea Cup is a decent option for takeaways and late night eats. As per observation their takeaway orders fly out quicker than the dine ins.
