Versailles Brunch At Brasserie Quartier – The St. Regis Dubai

Brasserie Quartier located at St Regis Dubai is one of popular eateries in Dubai. The quality of food is the finest and french delicacies like never seen before! We happened to try out the famous Versailles brunch which is an unforgettable celebration of style and culinary art at BQ’s.
Decor wise the restaurant is very royal! With mannequins displaying logos from famous designers such as Chanel look elegant and different. They do have a live band as well.
Coming to the most important part, the food. Simple flavours yet all shining. There is a wide variety of salads, appetizers and patisserie served throughout the courses. While the salads, appetizers and few other dishes such as pasta & burgers can be enjoyed live from the counters, the main course is served on the table.
We got a red band & green one. Green for non alcoholic bevys & red for the alcoholic ones. The variety of drinks is spot on! You can enjoy unlimited drinks along with some scrumptious food! The wine options are huge and the cocktails are great too!
The best part of the whole deal is the desserts! Oh so decadent and delicious! Each one better than the other. Mind you it’s not your single table filled with goodies but an entire section dedicated to sinful sweets. The chocolate fountain, mousses, macrons, truffles & cakes. All made in house and served as many times as you please.
Overall, we enjoyed our experience, except the main course option which I felt was weak for vegetarians. The same was compensated with the delicious pasta dishes, salads and desserts. The live band is enthusiastic and fun to watch!
Cost:
AED 350 Haute package
AED 550 Couture package
AED 650 Versailles package

Staycation Experience – Manzil Downtown

What’s the first thought that comes to your mind when you are choosing options for staycations? Comfort for me has been a priority, not only of myself but of my guest/s as well.
When the amazing folks at Manzil Downtown invited me for a staycation, I accepted it in a heartbeat! This gorgeous Emaar property is once of finest boutique hotels in UAE. The arabesque theme runs in the decor throughout the hotel. You will definitely learn a few Arabic words while your stay. My guest and I were upgraded to a deluxe Burj Khalifa view suite. With amazing view, cozy room and service fit for a queen, Manzil Downtown surely scored solid points for stay!

Room

Our room overlooked a not to be missed view of Burj Khalifa and downtown Dubai. The wall features Arabic murals above the headboard, the color scheme is grays, whites and blacks. Generally I would expect more woodwork in room as that would go with the Arabian theme however here they given a modern touch which makes it perfect for any type of stay whether it’s business or pleasure.
The room features basic facilities like 42 inch flat TV, coffee & tea self serve facilities, hairdryer, Mini Bar, multi charging points & ironing facility. Another thing I loved about the hotel is that every guest is entitled to complimentary high speed WIFI that extends to pool as well. The white beddings give a very calming effect to the room. There is also a compact study and a lounging sofa. A lot of attention has been paid to the details in the room, there are Arabic words and meanings of them on many things such as the bathrobes, do not disturb signs and more.

The bathroom

It’s spacious and comes with separate shower area. Basic toiletries such as shower caps, ear buds and such are provided along with shampoo, conditioner and body lotion.
The bathtub is spacious and good to fit two people. I had a few concerns with the bathroom as it is door-less one, which means you cannot just share room with anyone but someone close to you. Also there aren’t any anti slip mats, considering the shower area can be slightly slippery after the use.

Swimming pool & Gym

Post our brunch we headed to the pool for some relaxation. Unfortunately I forgot my bathing suit and couldn’t enjoy a swim but my guest and I had a great time soaking the sun and lounging at our cabana. We also enjoyed some drinks at the pool from Oriental pool & Bar. They also have a 24 hour open gym for those interested in staying fit during their stay.

Service

I loved the fact that there are specific tags that you can place at your room door. If you want the room to be made you can place the tag for the same. I spotted housekeeping staff several times at the foyer and they would always ask if I needed any assistance. The lifts can be operated by tapping your room key which is more secured feature added by most of hotels today.  The staff members had also added some welcome sweets in my room which clearly shows how much they love personalising the experience for thier guests.

Food

We opted for breakfast & brunch at Boulevard kitchen & dinner at the courtyard. You can read the detailed review for the same by clicking on the following restaurants – Boulevard Kitchen & The Courtyard.

Synopsis

Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. My mom was in town and she was visiting Manzil Downtown for the first time and she was impressed too! Everyone is warm & friendly right from the staff at the entrance to housekeeping. There is certain comfort level that gets built with the staff and makes it easier to interact with. Manzil Downtown is a home away from home. The room is ideal for couples or even besties for stay. The hotel also offers shuttle buses & airport transfer facilities. Check in time is as late as 2 pm.
As mentioned earlier, there are a lot of details been added to the hotel to make it more homely like the floral centerpiece at the lobby is fresh flowers in pots & there is even a mini herb garden at the pool area. Manzil Downtown is a dreamy arabic home that provides you all the luxuries! Check out the gorgeous view from my room’s window:

Chef Thomas Keller’s Bouchon Bakery JBR

Bouchon bakery is a brainchild of famous 7 star Michelin chef Thomas Keller. Post the launch of Bouchon Bistro & The French Laundry, the chef decided to try out bakery options for everyone in form of Bouchon. The bakery quickly blossomed into a full grown establishment. When I was in Vegas, I wanted to try out Bouchon Bakery but I couldn’t due to lack of time. Who knew four years later I would be sitting in this very establishment sipping delicious coffee and snacking on some of finest pastries. Lucky me!
Bouchon bakery is open from breakfast to dinner. Located at JBR, this bakery offers beautiful views! I visited here for dinner but definitely will be back for breakfast. Here’s all we tried.
Monkey bread: Cinammon-ney goodness and fresh bread that is perfect accompaniment to coffee.
Cream Cheese Danish: I want to wake up to this everyday!!!
Almond croissant: okay, one cream cheese danish and one almond croissant everyday!!
White bean soup: not a fan of this one as I felt the piquillo pepper vinaigrette was a bit too strong.
Quiche Forestier: my guest tried this one. His experienced palate has never tried something like this before. In another words, he loved it! In fact he went back to try it again!
Grilled Cheese Sandwich: I could taste the mature cheddar and the fontina too. The bread was fresh!
Secret sandwich: that’s not on the menu but as they didn’t not have a vegetarian sandwich available. I requested if anything can be done about that and the manager instucted his staff to whip up a special one just for us! It was a version of their roasted mushroom sandwich and as per my suggestion it was served in walnut bread. That bread was super moist, I could taste how fresh it was and also how pairing it with roasted mushrooms made it even better. Both walnuts and mushrooms complimenting textures and earthy flavors.
We moved on to desserts. I was overwhelmed as the there was so much to try. However I opted for some of the best ones I have read about earlier.
Famous TKO- Thomas Keller Oreo, dark chocolate biscuit with white chocolate ganache filling. Classic and better than any oreo any day! This tribute to oreo is a hit!
Macrons: assorted macrons, each flavorful and delicious! My favorite was saffron & coconut ❤
Paris Brest: I don’t know where to to begin with this dessert. It’s more like a dream! Raspberries, pistachio, lightly rose flavored cream and raspberry jam sandwiched between choux pastry.
Chocolate eclair: do I have anything to compare this on? Really not because this is another dreamy pastry I would give up my entire meal for. It’s filled with just perfect amount of cream and chocolate. Topped with 22 carat gold leaf this delight is perfect for Dubai-ites!
OH OH! – I was wondering why it’s named as such but then I tried out the pastry. My expressions were exactly OH OH! Covered in thick chocolate shell is a delicious chocolate swiss roll.
The food is undoubtedly delicious! There is no fussy presentation. It’s simple, the flavors and freshness of ingredients are inviting enough. The manager Mr. Alex was very kind to suggest us few dishes to try. He also informed us that everything in the bakery is made from scratch with the finest ingredients and secret recipes that only few know. Freshness is emphasized here as they bake their breads and other viennoiseries as early as 4am!
At the beginning of the session, our service was a bit slower and we had to repeat orders twice to our server. As the evening progressed, the service gradually improved.
Overall, bouchon Bakery’s dishes are simply delicious! This is one place you must not miss! Perfect for breakfast dates! Their coffee is sourced from Ghana and it’s strong and the fragrance is really inviting! The viennoiseries  are flaky, buttery and simply divine!
Bouchon Bakery validates parking at any spends more than AED75. Valet service is available as well.

Sushi Stories At Sumo Sushi & Bento

As you may have read before, I wasn’t particularly fond of sushi earlier because I always thought it would contain fish. I am not a seafood person at all so that was no-no zone for me. However ever since I have started blogging about my conversion to vegetarianism I have discovered many restaurants that offer sushi dishes that are vegetarian. When I got an invite from Sumo Sushi & Bento to try out their vegetarian menu I was surprised to see that actually have a detailed two page menu for folks like me!
Definitely I squealed in joy because finally there is a restaurant who wants to do something for those who don’t prefer seafood.
We started off with vegetable Harumaki, Tofu steak, Avocado rolls, vegetable gyozas,  delicious sparklers such as sumojito & a berry drink. Honestly there was literally no dish that we didn’t like! My guest and I savoured it all and we tried more.
Our mains included veggie vietnam, veggie ramen, forbidden rolls, futomaki & tempura rolls. I know it’s a lot but honestly I wanted to try all of these so that I can find my favorites. Little did I know I will fall in love with all that I tried. All sushi dishes were prepared skillfully and no two dishes despite similar ingredients tasted the same.
Coming to our desserts, weopted for the green matcha roll, fried tempura ice cream and Kasutera lotus cake. I loved all three but my favorite has to be the tempura ice cream that was hot on the outside and warm inside ❤
The service throughout was fantastic! Special thanks to our friendly servers, Ms Ebeth & Mr Bishnu for being so patient with our orders and explaining every dish that was served. The ever smiling staff are backed by super sweet area manager Ms Rachel.
Overall, if you are looking to try some delicious Japanese fusion dishes and sushi, you must visit Sumo Sushi and Bento! They also have a rewards card where you can earn rewards in form discounts which is absolutely great! The prices anyways are very reasonable with dishes starting from AED20, this could be a fabulous place for lunch dates!

Cheese Dreams At Shami Gourmet

Do you crave middle eastern food when you travel outside the mid-east? I certainly get withdrawal symptoms and start frantic searches for places that serve my beloved manaoushe & falafel. The best of which you can find only in UAE. In UAE is the polar opposite as you will find every nook and corner restaurant serving felafels & Shawarma. Sorting out the best ones in my job.
I was invited to try out levantine vegetarian offerings at Shami Gourmet. They offer a wide range of dishes right from grills to gelatos. They do have decent vegetarian options for one to make a meal of. I tried, out the grilled halloumi, cold mezze platter, Arabic falafel, mix cheese manaoush and fatayer.
The food is excellent for the price they are offered on. Everything Is fairly reasonable and portions are good too! Open style kitchen gives you a glimpse of how you order is made. The staff at all times were wearing gloves and disposal head caps.
For desserts my guests and I opted for snickers gelato & berry cheesecake. The former was my favorite of the two as the gelato was creamy & absolutely on money. The generous staff let me try all the flavours they offer. Mango sorbet & ferrero rockers were my favorite of the lot. The cheesecake on the other hand was decent enough.
The day I visited they were facing some aircon issues. Despite that the staff were making a constant effort to keep all the customers satisfied. They are more popular for their deliveries as I sat there watching deliveries fly out constantly.

McDonald’s Hand Gesture Campaign

Ramadan is the most significant event for Muslims around the world. Abstaining from food and water from dawn to dusk is the pattern followed by observers.

Brands invest in heavy advertising during this period & take this opportunity to promote food products through various mediums. It’s not an incorrect practice to promote food products & related services during fasting hours. However, innovative campaigns always work well as they stand out from the crowd.

One such noticeable campaign launched last year was by McDonald’s UAE. Their “No distractions” billboard was appreciated by many. This campaign garnered positive responses and resulted in launch of a similar campaign this Ramadan known as ‘The Hand Gesture Campaign’

McDonald’s has set a perfect example for how marketing is done in this era. There has been a shift of focus from just product advertising to consumer oriented marketing. ‘The Hand Gesture Campaign’ focuses on respecting Muslims observing Ramadan by keeping the food displayed on outdoor mediums to a minimum. What’s interesting to observe is that this campaign too like the former one continues to focus on theme of being respectful in holy month of Ramadan.

‘The Hand Gesture Campaign’ includes digital billboards which show empty hands “recreating” a burger before iftar & then gets replaced by the same hands holding a burger close to Iftar time. These hands can also be seen on some static billboards and scattered across panels around the country.

Another aspect focused in this year’s campaign is diversity. From details such as hands used in ads across to sharing Ramadan stories from people of different ethnicities, all have been covered. The Ramadan stories shared on their Instagram McDonald’s UAE  are personal experiences by actual people. These experiences & memories are not only heartwarming but also gives an insight from various perspectives. This clever campaign creates instant connectivity between the brand & the audience with little focus on the product itself.

McDonald’s hand gesture campaign revolves around their latest offering which is the Ramadan meal. Exclusively designed for UAE, this meal includes a choice of burger, refreshing McFizz with Vimto Flavor, delicious Date custard Pie  & Nuggets all for the price of AED25. Being a vegetarian I never actually get to try out Ramadan meals but this time McDonald’s has covered the same too. Their choices do include vegetarian burgers as well! Love how detailed their strategy is. This makes a difference and allows products to penetrate amongst various segments of the market.

Have you spotted this campaign recently? What are your thoughts on the same? Do write to me in comments below.

Street Gastrologue At Tableya

Use of Molecular gastronomy and dry ice in food presentation is the hottest trend of the town as it makes the food more ‘instagram-able’. Bringing in the twist to this concept are the new entrants Tableya
Tableya, a concept born and raised in Dubai promises fusion of Indian and middle Eastern cuisine along with gastronomy experience. Does it live up to the hype? Read along to know.
Located at properties of Bay Square, this restaurant accommodates both shisha smokers and non smokers. At first impression Tableya has interesting decor, bright turquoise sofas, metal light pieces and wooden tables that look gorgeous!
For food we were offered a whole lot of variety. Generally, I am not someone who eats a lot at one time as I simply cannot but the food was so good that I had to try all. The amuse Bouche, Kaitafi Chaat had a rather dramatic presentation and was bursting with flavors.  This, was just the teaser and what followed were just some more delicious dishes that I highly would recommend to try.
Our appetizers, katafi paneer, baba ganoush cornetto, granola chaat, pani puri shots, wadapops, channajor felafel and thepla quesadilla. They all needed to be mentioned as all were presented stunningly! The weak links from the appetizers I felt was the pani puri shots that were definitely good to share but tastewise were just about ok. Also the granola chat topped with dahi spheres was a tad too sweet for my liking.
Our main courses were winter vegetables, smoked daal and tiffin pav bhaji. These dishes maybe sounding simple but the taste was certainly not. Complex flavors blended so well with each other and tasted simply delicious! My favorite was the smoked daal that I had with assorted naans, it tasted absolutely fabulous! I am definitely going back for more of that daal and also the tiffin pav bhaji which evoked nostalgia and made me feel like I am back at Juhu beach trying out the Pav bhaji at stalls. Also the mini buns served along were super cute!
The chefs insisted that we try the desserts and were been sent coconut creme brulee and kunafa cheesecake. The former was light and perfect end to the meal, served with refreshing berry sorbet the contrast in flavours left one wanting for more. The latter was rich, essentially a tres leches kinds of cake topped with kunafa and served on a bed of saffron infused milk. Needless to say, both presented gorgeously!
Overall, Tableya is a casual dine in with some seriously good food and equally good shisha. Often shisha places are not known to have a wide variety of food but at Tableya things are done differently. The prices are reasonable and the staff is very hospitable. My visit was in the first week of restaurant’s opening and their team of professionals handled it well.
About chefs: Experienced chefs, Mr Manoj Radi and Mr Jeet Negi both are new to UAE and have promised to change the UAE food scene. Both of them have earlier worked with Indian Accent, a well known chain of restaurants owned by a popular chef in India. Head chef Mr Radi believes in creating food that is not only appealing to the eye but palate as well. Sous Chef Mr. Negi believes in giving a twist to the classic dishes which surprise the diners.
