Espana has been voted as the chefs choice of restaurant recently. So when I got the invite, I was certainly excited to try out the same. I must admit though, I generally prefer tapas because not at every place you get vegetarian options especially the paella. So I brought along a friend who is a Spanish food expert.
We started off our evening with some delicious sangria, an entire pitcher fell short to us! It was delicate and I would definitely prefer to cool off with it in summers. We Also enjoyed some scrumptious tapas, namely stuffed potatoes with mushrooms & goat’s cheese crouquetas. My guest enjoyed her chicken skewers dish.
The tapas are priced well for the portions served. It’s not to tiny and perfect for a light bite. Following our tapas experience we had vegetarian paella & my guest had seafood one. I have had a chance try vegetarian paella only twice. Once in Casa De Tapas & once here. I was surely surprised by the variety offered for vegetarians which definitely makes a decent meal. My guest’s seafood paella was filled with mussels, octopus & prawns all cooked to perfection(guest opinion)!
We ended our meal with delicious churros that were served with chocolate chilli sauce & carrot cheesecake. The former was a standout while the latter dessert was not really impressive. We paired our churros with Macchiato Martini which was a strong choice of drink but went really well with the desserts.
Overall, it was fun night at Espana and I will certainly be visiting the place again for ladies night. We loved the live music feature. Unsure of what is the exact decor inspiration however its quirky and attractive!

Moombai & co. Is the latest addition to H Hotel’s array of dining options. Inspired by Bollywood songs & movies, the bar-resto offers indian cuisine with their own twist.
Some dishes in the menu are of Irani-Parsi origin. The decor of this bar restaurant is very kitchsy with movie posters and famous dialogues framed. The lights are dim so photography was an issue here.
We set to order from the menu provided, I opted for paneer achari tikka and Bombay grill sandwich. The paneer dish was good but the grill sandwich was a tad undercooked. It surely wasn’t grilled perfectly but tasted fine. My guest’s Akuri egg cheese toast too came with slight burn on top which indicated that it was overcooked.
Our mains arrived, the paneer kurchan & daal both were delicious! These are simple dishes and familiar tastes. The apricot biryani was good too! We paired our daal dish with cheese & garlic naan that was flaky and oozing with butter( weight watchers, strictly avoid!)
My guests has savory lassi and I had two very interesting cocktails. One was saffron based and the other was Baba Bhudan Martini both were strong and bang on the buck!
Our desserts were a huge disappointment with falooda being too damn icy to the chocolate pudding being undercooked which left a really bad aftertaste. Not only that, the dish took a long while to arrive, even longer than the mains! The same had been highlighted to management post my visit.
The service was a concern for me. Since it was a busy Friday, the restaurant was full and there were only 1-2 servers in the area we were seated in. I am unsure If our server was nervous or wasn’t able to comprehend with the feedback given to him. The manager too was constantly trying to justify the delay and the taste of the dessert stating that that’s exactly how the dish is served.
Overall, Moombai & Co. Is great for casual drinks hangout and I will be definitely back for those. Especially the boozy golas! I really liked the interiors and the way its been designed. The restaurant looks smaller but is quite spacious. They need to work on menu execution though as I feel the dishes can taste much better if the ingredients are treated correctly.

Hitchki is a restaurant/Bar concept all the way from India. I really like the fact that a lot of restaurants are coming down to Dubai for their international fans but sometimes the uniqueness fades of in the process of being “international”. Does Hitchki live up the hype? Read along to know.
A restaurant within a restaurant is a unique concept in itself. Located in Bazxar DIFC , Hitchki claims to offer a nostalgic Indian experience.
We were invited to the VIP pre-launch tasting session for Hitchki and were been provided a set menu of items for order. We were given our drinks(drunken nimboo pani & Geeta Babita) and informed that will have to wait for the appetisers to arrive. It took almost more than an hour and several reminders to our server to bring out the appetisers. After which we were sent out non vegetarian appetisers. We had informed in advance that we are vegetarians.
After a long wait we were been provided with mumbai ka julius ceasar salad which sadly was not fresh. The bhatti ka paneer in comparison was passable. Expressing my disappointment on the delay the manager brought out paneer kurchan roll. It was not on menu for that night but we got to try it and it was a good change from the earlier dishes we were provided.
The mains, none from set menu for bloggers were available except the daal makhani. We were provided that and paneer tikka masala. Both dishes were delicious but there was nothing unique about them. Throughout our tasting the servers were really clueless of what to serve us, it almost felt as if our reservation didn’t exist!
We were about to leave when the desserts were brought out. Baratiyon ka swagat & Gulab Jamun Truffle. Both unique and actually worth the wait! Aesthetically pleasing, taste-wise complex and interesting.
Overall, the dishes that I tried were average taste-wise, the service was major issue as there was no coordination between the staff & the manager. Failure in service could be excused if it was the only pre-launch event, however they had been conducting these prior the day of my visit as well. The staff were courteous and apologised for the delay caused.
The desserts and drinks were the only memorable thing about the event. Also the DJ was playing some really good tracks which made the atmosphere really interesting. I will be back only because I want to give the menu another try as their dishes in the complete menu sound innovative.

One of my friend’s invited me to this awesome place for dinner. We are regulars at the Qube Sports Bar but had never tried out any other restaurants in Meydan hotel.
The amazing view
The restaurant has a lovely view of the Meydan race course, the decor is very modern and the staff is very attentive. However what I did not like was the reservations as there is no direct number to the restaurant, one has to route through the reception to place a reservation. The day we were planning to visit, the reception line was down and the other restaurants could not connect us to the restaurant we wanted to dine in. So we took our chances without any reservation and luckily the staff arranged a table swiftly.
Moving to the food, Shiba Restaurant serves Asian cuisine..right from Indian to Japanese. Their menu is not vast but is fine for at least two to three visits. For starters we ordered vegetable spring rolls & Thai crab cakes, for mains we chose Vegetable Green Curry ,Fish Tikka, Egg fried rice and garlic naans. For sweet endings we ordered soft centered chocolate cake with coconut ice cream.
The spring rolls were not that great but the crab cakes were fantastic. The crabs were cooked to perfection and moist. I loved the Vegetable Green Curry, the vegetables were cooked but crunchy and fresh. Accompaniments were great too. The fish tikka is a great option for those who choose to be on low carb diet, its not spicy and prepared very well.
Vegetable Green Curry
Overall, except the reservation part which was a slight glitch, everything went well. Food is always a great conversation starter and this place is great for a dinner date. The staff are very friendly and accommodating, they suggest the dishes to try as well.
