Pasta Love At Barilla Restaurant

What do you recall when I talk about the brand Barilla? Do you recall the pasta, delicious bottled sauces? I have been using them for years. Did you know Barilla brand have restaurants too? They have various restaurants across USA and now have two in Dubai.
Barilla has a very casual and open style restaurant at Dubai Festival City Mall. Wooden tables and comfortable seating is ideal for a restaurant located at the mall.
We tried the Panzanella salad that was served with creamy goats cheese. This was refreshing and a super healthy option. My guest opted for the classic burrata which was served with roma tomatoes and aragula leaves. Coming to the main courses, I opted for the tortellini stuffed with ricotta and spinach and my guest went for the pasta primavera. As a cheese lover, the tortellini dish is heavenly. I was in love and still am so much that I did order a takeaway of the same a while back. I love how delicate little parcels gave me so much happiness! Whether you are vegetarian or not, do not miss out on this stunning Alfredo tortellini dish. My guest’s pasta dish was simple, flavorful and wholesome as it had a lot of farm fresh vegetables. We did try the pizza as well. At Barilla, the pizza is served in rectangular shape, I wasn’t so much of a fan of the pizza. I just felt it needed a bit more flavoring from the tomato sauce at the base.
For drinks we opted the grapefruit fizz and the basil spritzer, both absolutely delicious! Stunning presentation and great to accompany the classic Italian meal. Though I always prefer wine with my Italian food but these drinks were a good non alcoholic option.
The desserts at Barilla are at display right near the entrance so the passerbys are definitely tempted to try them out. We took a lot of time contemplating on what to try and then finally settled for pistachio cake and chocolate mousse cake. This is the first time I have preferred the pistachio over chocolate, the cake was super moist and has this layer of wafer biscuit at the bottom which adds a crunchy element to the dish. The hazelnut chocolate crunch mousse cake was delicious and simple. There are other desserts too like the strawberry tart, tiramisu and many more that can be viewed at the display.
We ended our meal with some flavorful Lavazza coffee.
The staff at Barilla were a gem! Really helpful and always there to give suggestions and even help me pronounce some Italian terms. I did have a brief meet with the chef Rita Fegatilli and her team. A true Italian with passion for food and she was very excited to talk about the techniques and dishes prepared.
If you are located near Dfc or are at the mall, Barilla is the place to try out. The food is take on classic Italian flavors. The dishes are your usual pasta and pizza but the treatment of freshest ingredients by the chef make all the difference to the dish.
Barilla will soon be introducing breakfast concept. They also have a branch at outlet village mall.

Tacos To Churros, All At Tortilla

When we talk about Mexican cuisine, first thing that comes to our mind is TORTILLAS. Oh aren’t they just yum? That’s exactly what the owner for franchise name Tortilla thought. The name explains the cuisine but does this new franchise live up to the hype? Read along to know more..

Tortilla is a brand from UK and they have opened their first branch at Dubai Festival City center. Located at the food court, this casual dining restaurant is very vibrant and they have tried to retain the Cali feel for their customers.
My guest and I tried many dishes. Trio of Tacos, quesadillas, burritos, fajita rice bowl and to wash all that down we had the frozen lime margarita. All the dishes are prepared right in front of you and everything can be converted to vegetarian/vegan.
Highlights of our meal was the big fat burrito, all stuffed with rice, vegetables, salsa, beans & cheese. We loved it! Though I found it a bit bland ( my indian-ness is coming around) so I added a good squeeze of sirarcha on it and it was perfect! Another dish to try is the fajita bowl (minus the meat for me) I loved how the subtle flavours of rice and roasted bell peppers were paired. All the dishes are good for two and pricing is pretty reasonable considering the quality offered.
The manager was informing me that they replace the vegetables/salsa within every few hours so that the customers can enjoy fresh dishes without worrying about quality. All the staff handing food are seen with disposable gloves which are changed often too.
coming to the drinks, they offer the local Mexican sodas which are known as Jarritos. At one point of time I was crazy about this soda brand and tried all flavours including the hibiscus one. So instead I opted for the frozen magarita & it needs a special mention. with hot, spicy and delicious food this drink provides refreshment.
We were really stuffed but the staff insisted us to try their newly launched desserts. The option was between nutella & banana quesadilla and churros. We opted for the latter because who can say no to churros ever? These churros are to die for. Crunchy bits outside and soft inside, they are fat little fried doughnuts! Served with chocolate and toffee sauce it is a delicious treat. It was so good that now whenever I go for movies to dfc I buy these and happily munched on them (no I dont share it 😛) The chocolate sauce is created from authentic mexican cacao and is not overtly sweet but perfect!
Overall, I love the concept of fresh food prepared right in front of you and the fact that they are adding dishes as per market demands like the churros weren’t initially the part of menu and later added as many customers asked for it. Lovely decor and a fun place to visit. Also the staff is courteous and advise you in advance for spice levels of the sauces. Probably the only thing I want to point out is that their tortillas for the wraps are prepackaged ones and not fresh. Also the quesadillas need to be a bit more cheesier.
P.s: a bit messy to have tacos and burritos by hand but that’s how it to be eaten and trust me you will love it!

Add Colors to your table – Cheesy Beetroot Rice Recipe

This recipe is a twist to what my granny makes. Its very delicious, healthy and a great way to add some gorgeous color to your table.

What you need:

2 cups cooked Basmati rice

1 cup boiled and grated beetroot

1/2 cup finely diced shallots

1/4 cup finely chopped bell peppers

1/4 cup julienne carrots

1/2 teaspoon finely crushed black pepper

1 medium green chilly

2 cloves of garlic

1/4 cup clarified butter

1/2 cup sharp cheddar cheese ( alternatively 1 vegan cheese slice)

1 tsp lemon juice

Salt to taste

2 clove buds

1 bay leaf

100grms cottage cheese cubes (Alteratively Boiled soya chunks for the vegans)

1 tsp salted butter

3-4 roughly torn lettuce leaves for garnish.

Using pestle and mortar, mince the green chilly and garlic.

In a pan heat 2 tsp clarified butter, clove buds, bay leaf, diced shallots and green chilly mixture. Saute the mix until the shallots go soft and translucent. Add the carrot and bell peppers too. Cover and let it cook for approx two minutes. The aim is not to loose the crunch but the vegetables have to be cooked perfectly.

Remove the pan lid and add the grated beetroot along with 1tsp lemon juice. We are adding the lemon juice to save the discoloration that happens to beetroot when cooked. Mix well, add the pepper powder, salt and cottage cheese cubes. Remove the mixture from heat, add in half of the cheddar cheese and let the warmth of the mix melt the delicious cheese. Let the mixture cool down and add the rice you had prepared earlier. Give a quick toss and you will see the colors of beetroot mixture quickly catching up to the rice as well.

Prior serving, add the lettuce leaves to a pan along with some butter and saute for a minute. Quickly add the remaining cheddar cheese and let it melt. Stir well and top this mixture over your cheesy beetroot rice.

The sharpness of cheddar and sweetness of beetroot just makes a lovely combination. Serve it warm and with love ❤

Note: Vegans can avoid the cheese or use the vegan cube cheese available in all leading supermarkets.
