Fine Dine In Jumeirah- The Vintage Room

The vintage room at Jumeirah 1 is a fairly new one. Located right next to the McDonald’s drive thru, this place offers you a unique dine in experience. Cuisines on offer are Indian & Italian my two most favorites.
We set to order our appetizers, I chose the vegetarian platter while my guest opted for Crostone Caprese. Unfortunately as burrata wasn’t available we had to settle down for patate all aribiatta. My vegetarian kabab platter was choice of any four kababs from their menu. The most interesting one was nadru makhne ke kabab which is essentially lotus stem kababs. This dish was recommended to me by their manager and it is worth a try! My guest’s dish was a hearty portion of baked potatoes with rosemary which were just fine.
For our mains I thought of twisting it around and opting for Italian. I opted for vegetariana pizza, ravioli in alfredo sauce and penne in alfredo sauce. One bite was all it took for me to realise that this was the authentic stuff! The dishes tasted really good and the pasta were perfectly al dante! Not a lot of restaurants that offer Indian cuisine cook pasta correctly so this was a first for me. The ravioli too was stuffed perfectly! Upon inquiring I was been informed that they have an Italian chef who prepares all of the dishes and pasta are made fresh!
We were really stuffed but had to try out their red velvet kulfi which is highly talked of in social media. Also we tried out the tiramisu. The former was a great dish, light and creamy. Melt in mouth texture of the kulfi was a perfect end to our decadent meal. On the other hand, the tiramisu was not so exciting. What put me off was the use of sweetened cocoa powder that topped the tiramisu. It gave the dish that unnecessary sweetness.
The highlight of our meal was when their pianist played some lovely soothing music. We loved her performance and enjoyed our lunch in peace. Concerns were a bit on the service as it was slower than expected but as the food was served fresh I think it deserves time to be prepared.
Thanks to The vintage room team for the lovely invite.

VLCC Slimming Treatment Review

What’s the first thing that pops in your mind when I say VLCC? Most associate them with weight loss hoardings seen across the city or even for their well-known beauty products found at select retail outlets. However, there is much more to the brand than what we know, as I discovered for myself.

VLCC has a very holistic and practical approach towards the whole mystery of slimming down and maintaining a healthy body.

I got the opportunity to try out one of their slimming sessions called Tei machine that focuses on fat loss from thighs, arms and stomach area.

This was my first visit, and to begin with, I was asked to share my brief medical history and my lifestyle with their wellness counsellor. Once she had all details noted down, she began explaining to me on how VLCC works on setting smaller weight loss targets which make it easier for clients to achieve. Also, the monitoring of same is done week on week basis so that one is aware of how and what exactly is helping them lose weight.

Experts and counsellors at VLCC ensure to design a healthy mix of passive treatments such as Tei along with a diet plan to achieve desired goals.

Tei Treatment- My Experience

Prior to the treatment, my weight was checked on their Body Composition Analysis (BCA) Machine. The machine also calculates metabolism rate, weight in specific areas and the BMI which is calculated keeping in mind the weight and height.

This session is completely private and done in a closed room. Gel slathered straps were attached to targeted areas. What Tei machine does is help in loosening fat from the areas and increasing the metabolic rate. In the forty-five minutes of the session the straps emitted heat at various degrees. Along with variating degrees of heat the straps also vibrates. These vibrations like heat variate the pattern to maximize fat loss.

The treatment rooms are equipped with televisions and are very relaxing. Use of mobile phones is permitted or one can even choose to catch up on some much needed sleep while in session.

Post treatment the weight analysis is done again. This helps in drawing comparisons pre-& post sessions.
There aren’t sudden changes in the weight post the sessions but these help in increasing metabolic rate that promotes fat loss. For someone who has a slower

Tea & Talk at The Tea Cup

I just love driving around Jumeirah and discovering new cafes. Mostly my drives are late night and luckily there isn’t much traffic at those times which makes it easier to move around.
If you are a frequent Jumeirah person then you wouldn’t have missed out the sign that says Tea Cup cafe. Located right next to Caliburger this quaint cafe serves hot tea and variety of fusion dishes inspired by Arabian cuisine up until 4am! They have another branch as well but I like this one the most. It’s comfortable and quiet ambiance which I prefer always.
IMG_7601
This was a review based visit and my guest and I were asked to try out many dishes they offer. We tried their famous pizza rigag, egg rigag (guest tried), Oman chips paratha roll, cheetos paratha roll, cheese honey chebab, ginger tea, chocolate shake and fruit cocktail.
The ginger tea was soothing! Back then it was crazy weather in Dubai with mix of hot and cold so this tea with generous pieces of ginger was perfect. Our chocolate milkshakes were decent enough to be enjoyed on a hot summer evening. The fruit cocktail was delicious and refreshing too!
Coming to the food, there were some hits and misses. The rigag pizza even though is innovative, I found it a tad difficult to eat as it kept falling. Their takeaway pack for Rigag looks convenient to handle though so I dont think this issue should occur. The paratha rolls were delicious, both generously slathered with Kraft cheese and topped with iconic Oman chips in one and cheetos chips in another. I did not try the chebab as it contains egg but my guest mentioned that he liked the taste of honey and cheese together with soft Arabic pancakes. All of dishes are priced reasonably and quantity wise good too.
We wanted to try desserts but none that were mentioned in menu were available for tasting. Also I found the staff bit too intervening when we placed our order because we were asked to order something else as staff mentions ” this combination will not go well”. I think it should be for the customer to decide on whether they want to try out something or not. Creating your own menu and then suggesting on not letting customers try is not exactly a great practice! I have forwarded my feedback to management the same evening of my visit so lets hope this has been taken care of. It did put me off from trying anything from the menu further.
Overall, Tea Cup is a decent option for takeaways and late night eats. As per observation their takeaway orders fly out quicker than the dine ins.

A Cheesy Affair At Taste Of Italy

Taste of Italy is a casual dining restaurant by five Michelin star chef Heinz Beck. Burrata and friends, a perfect name of the event held at Taste of Italy. As the name of the event explains it all, there is a lot of cheese and fun with friends involved.
img_6585
Burrata is made of fresh mozzarella and stracciatella . Always been curious to know how it’s made and I got a chance to view it live at this event. The talented chefs were applauded for their skills of making something so difficult look so effortless! There is a lot of technique involved in the making of this cheese, right from treatment of cheese through various temperatures to setting it.
Missed out on the dishes served at the beginning of the evening as I reached a bit late. However I did try some delicious hors d’ oeuvres that were served throughout the evening. Freshly baked foccacia sandwiches with burrata, tomato and basil, ricotta filled pastry puffs, Margarita pizza bites and many more. Same was with the drinks as we were served basil lime soda, ice tea mojito and carrot and ginger based shots all of which were refreshing and a perfect accompaniments with our dishes.
The live burrata station was my favorite! Fresh burrata served with accompaniments like the truffle sauce, pesto alla genovese, Antica Salsa Rassa, Pakino Cherry tomato pesto and Olive crema or paté as its known. The cherry tomato pesto was my favorite with sweet and subtle flavours complimenting the richness of burrata.
There was also a cheese tasting area which showcased the variety of cheeses made with cow’s milk like Taleggio, Cuor Di Noci, Fontina and then there were those made with sheep’s milk like moliterno, castagno. These were offered with interesting spreads like apricot jam and figs spread with chocolate.
Our entrees were Pacchero stuffed with Ricotta & Spinach, Rigatoni Pesto Burrata, Avacado & Rocket risotto. The common crunch element to Rigatoni and Risotto was the tomato and pesto bread crumbs and it worked perfectly well balancing the dishes and giving it that vibrant golden garnish. A special vegetarian version of risotto was served for us which was a very sweet gesture by the staff as the original dish was served with shrimps.
The desserts were Ricotta Cheese based Mousse with honey & cacao and Tiramisu. Besides this we also tried the Nutella Gelato and Tiramisu gelato, both were absolutely delicious!
The restaurant also retails Italian merchandise, fresh cheeses and ingredients so that you can make your own delicious versions with classic Italian flavors. TOI is casual dining restaurant with both outdoor and indoor seating options.
Overall, Burrata and Friends was a huge success and I have been informed that similar event will be taking place in New future. It’s a treat for burrata lovers like myself. The burrata was the star of the night and it remained throughout. I am super impressed with the dishes and will definitely be back to try their Ala carte menu soon.
Burrata and Friends event was priced at AED145 all inclusive.
Thanks TOI for the invite and our server, Mr O-jay for being so prompt and enthusiastic!

A Cool Hangout Spot – Dip N Dip

Coming back from a rough day at work, my colleagues and I stopped over at Dip N Dip, Jumeirah in search of some chocolate-y goodness.
Ended up trying their famous brownie crepe which was super soft and delicious! Topped with Belgium chocolate this warm treat is perfect for a cold and windy day. Apart from the brownie crepe, we also tried out the waffle stick which was a bit chewy and strawberries dipped in milk chocolate, a sort of low carb option.
Dip N Dip is a casual dine in/takeaway place. Red and white runs in their decor which are the colors seen in their logo as well. The staff were courteous and smiling throughout the service.
If you are a chocolate lover, this place is a must visit. Dip N Dip has wide variety of crepes, bakery items and ice creams. A cozy hangout place with chocolate fountain for view.
Excuse the sorry image, our phones were as drained of energy as us.

Restaurant Review: Bringing Back the 60’s with Ayam Elezz

The cuisine at Ayam Elezz showcases the golden era of Lebanon which was the 60s. This era bought major changes to culture of the country and the cuisine. Freshest fruits, vegetables and nuts are used in preparation of dishes which are pleasing to the eye and palate. A treat for vegetarians await at Ayam Elezz, keep reading to find out more..

img_4885

Located at The Mall Jumeirah, this restaurant has the quirkiest decors I have come across. Designed as if you are entering a Lebanese house in the 60’s. The wall outside the restaurant has become a favorite for everyone to pose on, while the suitcase that serves as the doorstop makes you chuckle. There are also items like the old TV cabinet, typewriter and wallpapers which again make you feel like you are invited to a Lebanese home.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

We were given an option to be seated outside which is again aircon area but for shisha smokers. We chose to sit inside as even the the view is fabulous as you can view the wild wadi and Burj Al Arab but we didn’t want to be in the shisha area.

Coming to the dishes, a wide spread was laid out in front of us and I was startled on where to begin. The complimentary lebneh and brioche bread were delicious and along with that some tabbouleh that was hand chopped and blended with sumac.

We were offered array of mezzes right from hummus to mhammara which were all delicious but the two must try dishes are the kibbeh lentil & Fattet Bateinjein. The kibbeh lentil is a vegetarian twist to the meat kibbeh. It’s a Gluten free and healthy option for those on diet. As far as the Fattet Bateinjein is concerned, it’s eggplant in yogurt and its delicious! Also you need to try the halloumi cheese that is prepared so deliciously, served with fresh pita bread and slices of tomato. Halloumi is pure heaven!

They do offer a wide range of grills as well, however since my guest and I are both vegetarians we opted for manakish to try instead. We tried the zaatar and cheese and Zaatar Jabali which were both hot and fresh!

For drinks we tried the Ayam Ellez cocktail that is a meal in itself, it is topped with fresh ashta cream and nuts. It’s basically a cocktail of the 60’s in Lebanon. We also tried the lemonade which is made by hand squeezed lemons and also the the pomegranate juice which was perfectly sweet and had no sugar added to it. I highly recommend these three drinks because they were very refreshing and all are squeezed by hand.

Our desserts were an absolute treat. We tried the kunefe and halwat al jibn. I wasn’t to happy with the kunefe served here as I like the vermicelli one more than the semolina topped one but it was cheesy goodness. The halwat al jibn was my favorite, stuffed with fresh cheese this milk pancakes are almost like the Indian Malai sandwich. Would recommend to cut down on the sugar syrup served alongside the desserts as it overpowers the dishes.

Overall,  the food is fresh, made with love and I adore the decor so much! It’s really not like a typical order and go mall restaurant but there is a lot if thought put into it. Besides that the prices are reasonable and the service is prompt. They have also introduced platters for lunch and breakfast which look so tempting and I will be back to try them soon.

Thanks to the manager, Ms Rana for the hospitality and invite.
