Dessert Heaven – Sukkar

I am a hardcore dessertarian which is why most of the time my instagram is filled with images of various desserts. When an invite from lovely lads at Sukkar popped up, I was super excited to visit them & try out their delicious offerings. Sukkar in Arabic means sugar & the name is apt for sweet treats they offer.
Located next to my favorite Logma, this place was once for brownie box. Same has been replaced with Sukkar.  Whatever I tried, everything was proportionate to price & quantity. We tried, arabian affagato, rose kunefe cheesecake, pretzel brownie, massive snickers milkshake, nutella well, assorted puffs & rosemilk cheesecake.
My favorites will always be the nutella well & pistachio & rose milk cake. I have never had a more moist milk cake.
If you haven’t visited sukkar yet.. Do make sure to try out their desserts once. I would skip multiple meals to try out their sugary goodies ❤
I will let the images talk to you & tempt you!

Vegans Rejoice At Baker & Spice

Fresh organic produce is one thing I always stress on. I love the crunch of the vegetables, the colors and how gorgeous they look! One restaurant’s name that always pops up in my head is Baker & Spice. I have a lot of memories attached to this restaurant as it was my dad’s favorite. Right after shopping from farmer’s market, picking out fresh produce we (dad and I) use to head to baker & Spice souk Al Bahar for a slice of cake & coffee.
Recently, Baker & Spice invited me to try out their vegan/vegetarian options from the menu. A visit to their branch bought back all the memories. Did the food quality change?  With time they have only improved upon the flavors, the textures and the techniques.
We started off with Avocado feta salad & Burrata. The avocado feta salad was just perfect with confit tomatoes cutting down the richness of the cheese. Our burrata was fantastic too! Fresh burrata with pesto & pinenuts a classic combination that never fails. To wash it down we had our charcoal lemonade & Apple mojito. Charcoal lemonade was tad sweet for my liking but I loved the presentation.
Our mains are something I cannot stop talking about. My beetroot bucatini was really impressive! A resident dish on the menu this is the kind of dish I expect for vegetarians. Served with organic spinach, chickpea curry and coconut, this dish was a hit. My guest’s main was squash tortellini with goat’s cheese. Now my guest is really fussy and not someone who experiments beyond basic vegetables and fruits. This dish was new to him too and the flavors were just perfect! This dish was one of specials of the day and kudos to the chef for such a creation. Both bucatini beetroot pasta and tortellini dish were handmade!
After delicious mains, we set off to try some desserts. Chocolate sundae was something that caught my eye and my guest opted for chocolate torte. The sundae consisted of their in house baked brownie. Both our desserts were heavenly as they are always at Baker & Spice. I have been ordering cookies and bakes from them for years so there is absolutely no doubt about the quality of their products.
With views of mighty Burj Khalifa & Dubai fountains, Souk Al Bahar branch is the best of all to visit. There are ample amount of dishes for both vegetarians & non vegetarians. All dishes are made with organic local produce that they have always been associated with. I reckon this place would be perfect for a lunch date! The ever smiling staff were friendly and helpful with menu options. They were even careful of allergies and suggested dishes as per our liking.
More vegan/vegetarian options are avavailable on Monday as they have Meatless Monday promotion.

Italian Piadas In Dubai- Piadera

Piadera offers diners a chance to try the authentic Italian street food (piadas) with their own twist! I recently got a chance to try some of their delights. Read more to know.
They serve delicious dishes such as burrata, calzones & piadas of course. For those who aren’t familiar with piadas, these are flatbreads similar to pita but made in olive oil and cooked on a grid. Slightly thicker so that it can hold all the delicious filling!
We tried foccacia veggie, vegana piada, red calzone and mushroom pasta for our mains. The best of the lot was definitely the red calzone as it was stuffed with fresh mozzarella. I loved the vegana piada too as its made with soft tofu & olives. The pasta were a bit dry for my liking.
Our desserts were fabulous too.The chocolate torte was thick almost like cousin of a brownie. Our tiramisu was classic and delicious as well.
Piadera is best for those looking to try something new for their lunches/dinners. Their prices are reasonable and the variety of vegetarian dishes is great too!

Momo Magic At Real Momos

Karama’s hidden gem and loved by all, Real momos is truly unbeatable! I always tried their takeaway and when given am opportunity to review them, I chose to dine in!
It’s a small cafeteria with basic tables & chairs. The place has quickly caught up the attention of the youth as many were found hanging around and ordering takeaways. Our order consisted of steamed veggie momos, tandoori paneer momos ( yes you read it right T A N D O O R I), Chinese bhel & soft drinks . Now the concept of tandoori momos, I hadn’t heard of them before so I was very excited to dig into the gorgeous orange momos & see how they have developed the required flavor.

The tandoor flavor is there. I felt the filling was a bit under in terms of flavor & quantity for the paneer momos. The steamed veggie momos were nice and moist. Served with tangy chilli sauce, the taste reminded me of road side eateries in Delhi/Mumbai. What’s interesting is that even though the momos are been steamed/ fried/ tandoori-fied the outter layer is delicate & perfectly carries the filling. The Chinese bhel was flavorful and a party in my mouth. Sweet, tangy, sour paired with crunchy lightly sauteed vegetables.

Overall I felt this place is really for those people who crave desi Chinese flavors which we would generally find around India. A clean & budget friendly joint for casual hangouts. I did love their version of thai green curry and would have loved more if they served it with Jasmine rice. Nevertheless our vegetarian noodles went well too! They do prepare the sauces and mixes by themselves. I love how passionate they are about bringing authentic flavors to diners.

Spanish Food Affair With Espana Dubai

Espana has been voted as the chefs choice of restaurant recently. So when I got the invite, I was certainly excited to try out the same. I must admit though, I generally prefer tapas because not at every place you get vegetarian options especially the paella. So I brought along a friend who is a Spanish food expert.
We started off our evening with some delicious sangria, an entire pitcher fell short to us! It was delicate and I would definitely prefer to cool off with it in summers. We Also enjoyed some scrumptious tapas, namely stuffed potatoes with mushrooms & goat’s cheese crouquetas. My guest enjoyed her chicken skewers dish.
The tapas are priced well for the portions served. It’s not to tiny and perfect for a light bite. Following our tapas experience we had vegetarian paella & my guest had seafood one. I have had a chance try vegetarian paella only twice. Once in Casa De Tapas & once here. I was surely surprised by the variety offered for vegetarians which definitely makes a decent meal. My guest’s seafood paella was filled with mussels, octopus & prawns all cooked to perfection(guest opinion)!
We ended our meal with delicious churros that were served with chocolate chilli sauce & carrot cheesecake. The former was a standout while the latter dessert was not really impressive. We paired our churros with Macchiato Martini which was a strong choice of drink but went really well with the desserts.
Overall, it was fun night at Espana and I will certainly be visiting the place again for ladies night. We loved the live music feature. Unsure of what is the exact decor inspiration however its quirky and attractive!

Farzified At Farzi Cafe Dubai!

Why Farzi? Because Farzi means creating an illusion. What you see is not what you always taste! That is the success mantra of Farzi cafe, a modern spice bistro by Zorawar Kalra.
Farzi cafe changed the scene of Indian cafes. New experiences and exquisite ingredients excite the diners. After gaining huge popularity in India, Farzi cafe opened its doors in Dubai.
I have tried the food at Farzi Cafe Mumbai and our experience earlier had been fabulous! Does the Dubai branch match the expectations? Read on to know.
My guest and I visited on a very busy Friday. The restaurant was packed with diners and not a single table was left empty for long. Looking at this it definitely did increase our expectations. For appetizers we were provided, tandoori wild mushrooms, walnut with truffle haze, Tandoori chilli cheese kulchas, daal aranchini & Chaat puffs. We were also served drinks such as chai soda & Pinacolada both with quirky presentation! Of all the dishes,my guest and I loved the tandoori mushrooms & paneer kulchas.
Coming to our mains, we tried Chermoula Crusted Paneer Tikka & vegetarian potato burger. Both delicious on their own way!
To end our meal we tried two stunning desserts. One named the dirt pile and other was a version of gulab jamun and rabri. The desserts impressed us massively! The deconstructed mud cake also known as THE DIRT PILE is Cleverly disguised as mud, the crumbles of cake are moist. The dish comes complete with a spade so that you can dig out some delicious elements such as fennel crumble, nuts, berries, chocolate truffles and even ice cream!
The service is quick and despite the crowd, the staff were very attentive.  Special thanks to the Manager Mr Manish for taking care of all our needs.
We were totally Farzified by the food and its presentation. The dishes are worth the wait and price wise everything on menu is reasonable. We are definitely going back to try more dishes!

Twist Of Taste At PepperMill Restaurant

I am a confessed shopaholic, browsing stores is my hobby! While doing all that hard work I keep searching for good places to eat within the malls. I have decided on my favorites in every mall and my latest addition to favorites list is Peppermill restaurant at Dubai Festival City Mall.
This restaurant is waterfront facing which gives a beautiful view for lunches and great for enjoying cool breeze in evening. We were provided chef’s specials for reviewing. We begain our courses with soups, presentation was spot on! Tomato Shorba the soup was delicious and a hearty bowl is sufficient for my lunch. Also we tried the lentil shorba which was delicious too but I would still prefer the former.
For starters we were offered sukha bhel ( dry savouries), palak chaat and chaat platter(samosa, pani puri, Palak chaat, fried potatoes). We were so full by the end of our appetizers.. however there was still the platter for grills and our mains and dessert too!
The tandoori platter consists of soya chaap (cutlets), assorted mushrooms, Portuguese potatoes & marinated cottage cheese cubes. The quantity of the platters is again huge! These platter both are easily sharable between a family of four to six. A very generous portion is indeed enjoyable!
Our mains consisted of vegetarian Biryani, broccoli & zucchini musallam, mutter paneer and cheese naans( baked flat breads). The most delicious was the broccoli and zucchini mussalam! Served in makhani sauce this dish is one I will never forget. It’s decadent and presented gorgeously! The mutter paneer is essentially hollowed cottage cheese chunk stuffed with mashed and spiced peas topped with a rich gravy. Again spot on with presentation and taste!
To end our meal we tried our coconut cream pannacota which was topped with sorbet, candied fennel seeds. The dish was refreshing and light. A portion again is easily shareable by two.
I felt the service was a bit off as it was late in the evening. However throughout the courses the team served with a smile which is something very important. In was pretty late and yet there were customers flocking in to enjoy the twist to humble Indian dishes. I was surprised to see that apart from Asians, there were a lot of locals as well who were clearly enjoying their time.
Overall, if you are looking to try interesting twists to Indian cuisine then you must note down peppermill in your list!
