Things to remember when shopping in Sale/Special offers

In UAE, the consumers have a wider choice. International brands, top quality products.. you name it and you get it. The best part is that most of these stores offer seasonal discounts and sales. However when we hear the word sale, we get carried away. Sale promotions are always tempting but what consumers need to be is smart.

Check out some of the tips below which will help you make your choices wisely.

Scan the entire store : Explore the entire store and come back to decide which products you are interested in. The other day my uncle wanted to buy a MicroSD card for his camera, he visited a store and checked out the promotional offers where he found MicroSD card at a nominal price in sale. What he didn’t check was that a trusted brand was already selling their MicroSD card of similar specification at a lower cost and without sale.

Do you need that? : After store scanning, add all the items you wish to purchase in a shopping cart or make a mental note of them. In case of clothing, accessories, shoes you need to try them to see how it fits on you. Once you have gathered all the desired items, check what looks better on you and make wise choices of whether you need to buy that or are you just getting it because its on sale. Also refrain from buying in bulk, chances are you will never end up using everything you bought.

Check for damages: Many a times damaged items or those which may potentially get damaged are set at lower prices. Check thoroughly for the products you wish to purchase.

Check for expiry: Applies for food items & makeup/skin care products, if its on promotion then either the expiry date is near or the company wants increased sales. Mostly its the former so check the dates before making your purchase. Also makeup/skincare products have certain expiry dates, checking these are important as expired products can cause damage to your skin.

Don’t get big sizes: This one’s specially for mommies as many of them tend to go for one size larger then the usual for children clothing/shoes. Sale items are generally last season which means they have been produced earlier and have potential to get damaged soon. Also many a times these kind of purchases end up in the corners of the wardrobes and forgotten. Always try one size up and one size down apart from your original size, check the fit and purchase the suitable one.

Never wait for further reductions: If you are lucky, you might find the desired products at further reductions but most of the time further reduction products are huddled in one corner of the store and rest of the store will have new collection which may actually not be on any sale. Further reduction technique is very old method to lure customers into the store. Once the customers are in, they will look at not only the sale products but also those which are not on sale. For those who will like it may end up buying from the non sale items.

Naznin from NazninAzeez Blog shared her tip: People should stop shopping more simply to earn more loyalty points. It’s definitely nice to see the points adding up and you will be thinking of all those lovely things you can redeem your points and get. However, in this race, one doesn’t care for the fact that points are earned based on the money spent, even if they are necessary or unnecessary stuff 😛

Hope these little tips and tricks will help you make better choices with your shopping. If you would like to add any, please feel free to write them in comments section. I will be more than happy to include them here with your name in contribution.
