Street Gastrologue At Tableya

Use of Molecular gastronomy and dry ice in food presentation is the hottest trend of the town as it makes the food more ‘instagram-able’. Bringing in the twist to this concept are the new entrants Tableya
Tableya, a concept born and raised in Dubai promises fusion of Indian and middle Eastern cuisine along with gastronomy experience. Does it live up to the hype? Read along to know.
Located at properties of Bay Square, this restaurant accommodates both shisha smokers and non smokers. At first impression Tableya has interesting decor, bright turquoise sofas, metal light pieces and wooden tables that look gorgeous!
For food we were offered a whole lot of variety. Generally, I am not someone who eats a lot at one time as I simply cannot but the food was so good that I had to try all. The amuse Bouche, Kaitafi Chaat had a rather dramatic presentation and was bursting with flavors.  This, was just the teaser and what followed were just some more delicious dishes that I highly would recommend to try.
Our appetizers, katafi paneer, baba ganoush cornetto, granola chaat, pani puri shots, wadapops, channajor felafel and thepla quesadilla. They all needed to be mentioned as all were presented stunningly! The weak links from the appetizers I felt was the pani puri shots that were definitely good to share but tastewise were just about ok. Also the granola chat topped with dahi spheres was a tad too sweet for my liking.
Our main courses were winter vegetables, smoked daal and tiffin pav bhaji. These dishes maybe sounding simple but the taste was certainly not. Complex flavors blended so well with each other and tasted simply delicious! My favorite was the smoked daal that I had with assorted naans, it tasted absolutely fabulous! I am definitely going back for more of that daal and also the tiffin pav bhaji which evoked nostalgia and made me feel like I am back at Juhu beach trying out the Pav bhaji at stalls. Also the mini buns served along were super cute!
The chefs insisted that we try the desserts and were been sent coconut creme brulee and kunafa cheesecake. The former was light and perfect end to the meal, served with refreshing berry sorbet the contrast in flavours left one wanting for more. The latter was rich, essentially a tres leches kinds of cake topped with kunafa and served on a bed of saffron infused milk. Needless to say, both presented gorgeously!
Overall, Tableya is a casual dine in with some seriously good food and equally good shisha. Often shisha places are not known to have a wide variety of food but at Tableya things are done differently. The prices are reasonable and the staff is very hospitable. My visit was in the first week of restaurant’s opening and their team of professionals handled it well.
About chefs: Experienced chefs, Mr Manoj Radi and Mr Jeet Negi both are new to UAE and have promised to change the UAE food scene. Both of them have earlier worked with Indian Accent, a well known chain of restaurants owned by a popular chef in India. Tea & Talk at The Tea Cup

I just love driving around Jumeirah and discovering new cafes. Mostly my drives are late night and luckily there isn’t much traffic at those times which makes it easier to move around.
If you are a frequent Jumeirah person then you wouldn’t have missed out the sign that says Tea Cup cafe. Located right next to Caliburger this quaint cafe serves hot tea and variety of fusion dishes inspired by Arabian cuisine up until 4am! They have another branch as well but I like this one the most. It’s comfortable and quiet ambiance which I prefer always.

This was a review based visit and my guest and I were asked to try out many dishes they offer. We tried their famous pizza rigag, egg rigag (guest tried), Oman chips paratha roll, cheetos paratha roll, cheese honey chebab, ginger tea, chocolate shake and fruit cocktail.
The ginger tea was soothing! Back then it was crazy weather in Dubai with mix of hot and cold so this tea with generous pieces of ginger was perfect. Our chocolate milkshakes were decent enough to be enjoyed on a hot summer evening. The fruit cocktail was delicious and refreshing too!
Coming to the food, there were some hits and misses. The rigag pizza even though is innovative, I found it a tad difficult to eat as it kept falling. Their takeaway pack for Rigag looks convenient to handle though so I dont think this issue should occur. The paratha rolls were delicious, both generously slathered with Kraft cheese and topped with iconic Oman chips in one and cheetos chips in another. I did not try the chebab as it contains egg but my guest mentioned that he liked the taste of honey and cheese together with soft Arabic pancakes. All of dishes are priced reasonably and quantity wise good too.
We wanted to try desserts but none that were mentioned in menu were available for tasting. Also I found the staff bit too intervening when we placed our order because we were asked to order something else as staff mentions ” this combination will not go well”. I think it should be for the customer to decide on whether they want to try out something or not. Creating your own menu and then suggesting on not letting customers try is not exactly a great practice! I have forwarded my feedback to management the same evening of my visit so lets hope this has been taken care of. It did put me off from trying anything from the menu further.
Overall, Tea Cup is a decent option for takeaways and late night eats. As per observation their takeaway orders fly out quicker than the dine ins.

Breakfast Stories At Feast, Sheraton Grand

There is a saying that goes like ” have breakfast like a king, lunch like a Prince and dinner like a pauper”. That’s actually quite right because breakfast is the most important meal of the day. What’s better than starting your day at Sheraton Grand’s breakfast buffet?
IMG_7475
A blogger friend ( check out Nikki’s blog Gooodcarbs) invited me for this tasting session. At first I was regretting waking up because it was the weekend and it was drizzling too. Parting with my bed was a difficult task but somehow I convinced myself as covering new places excites me.
Sheraton’s grand breakfast is like none other. They have live counters for pancakes your way, waffles and even stir fried noodles! All made fresh! The super sweet manager gave us a detailed tour of the entire spread! They had more variety than even some of buffets around the town.
For the health freaks there is also a gluten free and fat free option and no this was not on request, they always have these available considering the soaring demand. There is also a wide selection of fresh juices and smoothies for all.
My only dislike from the the range was Indian section as I felt better choice of dishes would have done justice to the cuisine. Nevertheless there were so many options that If you miss out on out section it shouldn’t be a big deal. Absolutely love the addition of ice cream to the breakfast buffet. Yes you read it right! They have delicious variety of ice creams ranging from sorbets to classics like chocolate.

If you are a UAE resident then you can get enjoy this grand breakfast treat for a little as Aed 69 by presenting your emirates ID.
Thanking Grand Sheraton always smiling staff for being so cooperative and letting us take delicious images of their stunning dishes. Everything is made in house freshly except the gluten free products which are sourced from trusted bakeries. Our server Viktor, an energetic chap was full of information about the buffet and did brief us on many of details.
Overall, Sheraton Grand’s breakfast buffet is a steal deal! Not saying this just because I was invited but because I have attended many corporate breakfasts at grandest of hotels. Either the prices are higher for the ones that offer everything like Feast restaurant does or there are limited vegetarian options. I am definitely going back especially for their bakery items such as tarts and croissants( I hope they start retailing them ’cause so good mmm..)

Japanese Food At Ichikura

I use to think Japanese food would never fit in a vegetarian’s diet but I am so glad to be proven wrong. Over the years I have started loving sushi and these quirky combinations for vegetarians make me crave them even more of it.
When Ichikura was launched at Ibn Batutta Mall, I had to make sure I try it out myself. Ramen noodles, dumplings, edmame, tempura and sushi! This little restaurant at the food court has more variety than even some of high end casual dining restaurants I know.
Don’t expect presentation because this a fast food so essentially their dealing is with customers who are finding good, hot and healthy fast food. Must trys from the menu would be the agedashi tofu, Vegetable Yakisoba and the Japanese curry rice. The prices are reasonable and they serve everything super quick! Their veggie uramaki sushi is fantastic too!
A bit if disappointment with the salad though. I would definitely expect my tofu salad to have more tofu than a few tiny pieces but the ponzu dressing was superb!
For drinks we were offered Calpis Japanese Soda which is opened on a very unique way.It was truly refreshing and great accompaniment to our hot food.
Overall, Ichikura has a good variety of vegetarian options and they have the famous Ramen noodles too. Though there were some misses here and there, the experience was decent enough.
They have special lunch deals and bento boxes. Contact 04 5509265 or refer  Ichikura Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - Zomato for menu

Party Starters with Chips N Dips

What is a party without some chips n dips? Whether it’s a house party or you having chips n dips at burjuman, guaranteed it’s a party in your mouth!
I was sent an amazing range of dips and loads of chips to try. These are just delicious dips, especially the sweet and sour chili cheese which also happens to be their top seller is simply divine! Also the Seven layered Mexican dip is spectacular! Cheese, guacamole, salsa, herbs.. This dip was over in just few minutes!
They do offer delicious range of sweet dips too. My favorite be in the red velvet dip which goes so well with graham crackers
IMG_7106
All their dips are vegetarian and freshly prepared by them. I love their concept and the best part is that it’s really close to Vox cinemas in Burjuman so instead of ordering your regular nachos and cheese I would highly suggest you to try out the Chips N dips.
  • Free Wifi on purchase of a chips n Dips order
  • They do party catering as well. Contact them on 04 2244842

Restaurant Review- Saj Bistro

Are you obsessed with middle eastern cuisine? I think I am a bit because I cannot live without hummus and my favorite halloumi. Giving a twist to these simple ingredients a modern concept of Saj Bistro was created.
Located conveniently at Aspin Towers, Saj Bistro offers a wide selection of burgers, wraps, face ups (manakeesh).
For appetizers, I ordered the quinoa salad and my guest opted for eggs sunny side up, fresh juices and halloumi wrap. The pesto halloumi wrap was delicious and interesting.
Must tries from the menu are definitely the akawwi cheese faceup that doesn’t only look delicious but the stringy cheese is a sight for cheese lovers.
For desserts, we opted for lotus waffle with ice cream and baklawa with ice cream. The former was light and not overtly sweet except the sauces while the latter was too sweet for my liking.
Overall, Saj bistro serves delicious fusion of leventine cuisine. Their quick service and delivery system sets them apart from the restaurants catering similar cuisine.

Lunch Scenes At Marco’s Italian Kitchen

I love the diversity in Wafi restaurants. They have  Seville’s for Spanish to Asha’s for Indian. Adding to the list is the newest member, Marco’s Italian Kitchen.
img_7384
Marco’s is named after the chef Marco Ghezzi who hails from Italy. With no fuss and frills the menu is kept simple and authentic. Ingredients are imported from Italy including vegetables.
For antipasti, we ordered burrata and zucchini chips. The burrata was fresh and the sourness of cherry tomatoes help in cutting through the rich and creamy taste of the cheese. The zucchini chips were simple and flavorful.
For Our mains, I opted for cannelloni stuffed with spinach and ricotta served in alfredo sauce. My guest opted for gnocchi. Both dishes are highly recommended for vegetarians. We also tried the pizza Napoli (vegetarian version) it was the best and most delicious pizza I have had!
img_7318
Marco’s offers excellent wine selection both white and red. These are perfect to go with italian food. However I chose to try their signature cocktail, Amore Mio. This rum based drink was delicious and pink! My guest opted for the beer as he is not a wine person.
For desserts we tried the tiramisu which surprisingly was a larger portion but so light! Served with mixed berries on side. The other dessert was a chocolate torta ( Torta Barrozzi), basically a dense cake, brownie kinds that was served with berry compote and berries.
The food definitely does brighten up the day but more than that it’s the beautiful decor. Wooden tables, fresh basil and thymes pots on each table, soft lighting and the lovely view of the terrace. You can opt to dine at the terrace but since it was a windy day back then we were seated inside. The semi open kitchen looks beautiful. Suggesting this place for lunch dates as the ambiance is very relaxing and gorgeous.
